Originally trained as a violinist and a graphic designer, Pastor Carolyn's love for the arts meshes perfectly here!
Pastor Carolyn grew up in Wauwatosa, loves to walk and read (but not at the same time). She graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee before working as a violinist-teacher and graphic designer. She attended Luther Seminary in Saint Paul, Minnesota. Prior to becoming pastor here, Pastor Carolyn was the senior pastor at Cross Lutheran Church in Burlington, Wisconsin for seven years. At her first call, she served as an associate pastor at Church of the Resurrection in Pewaukee, Wisconsin.
Like many members and friends of Kingo, Carolyn has lived all over the world - Urbana, IL; Ithaca, NY; London; Atlanta; Melbourne; St. Louis; and Glen Ellyn, IL. Carolyn and her husband are proud to have called Milwaukee home since 2006, making it the longest time she's lived in any one location. With their three children now in college, they're looking forward to filling the time getting to know their city even better.
Faith has always played an important role in Carolyn's life. She was active in her high school youth group and volunteered as a youth leader for several years in Illinois and Missouri before leaving her law career to serve in professional youth ministry. She was raised Presbyterian and has served in ELCA congregations for her last three calls. She has a Certificate in Youth and Family Ministry from Princeton Theological Seminary, and a Certificate in Cross+Generational Ministry through the Greater Milwaukee Synod and Vibrant Faith Ministries.
Jonathon is a senior at Concordia University Wisconsin pursuing a BA in music with a minor in theater. In addition to singing in Kammerchor (German for Chamber Choir), he also plays tuba in the symphonic wind ensemble. Jonathon currently serves as the president of Concordia's mixed a cappella group, If Looks Could Trill.
While he feels that music is his calling in life, Jonathon enjoys theater very much (especially musical theater). Whenever the opportunity arises, he loves attending live shows. If you attend a theatrical production at Concordia, there is a good chance that you will see Jonathon on stage.
We are incredibly blessed by Maria's talents at accompanying congregational music. Whether it's a jazz piece, a traditional African hymn, a Latin processional song, or any of a host of other musical styles, Maria makes our church's song better.
She and her husband, Tom, have been longtime residents of the Shorewood community. (You may have even seen the familiar sight of them walking their dog, Ruby.)
If you had to use one word to describe Danette, it would be "flexible". She is enthusiastic about yoga and tai chi, for starters, and brings an extraordinary degree of flexibility and capability to the church's administrative ministry.
If you call or email the church, or drop by during the week, Danette will likely be your first point of contact. You will also see her most Sunday mornings in worship, usually with her husband Paul and granddaughter Charlotte.
Danette has a long background in administrative work, but feels like she's found her true calling in bringing these gifts to a ministry setting. In 2011, she graduated from diakonia, a two-year lay ministry education program of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America.
Jim’s world is filled with gratitude and care for God’s creation. Recently retired from full-time employment, Jim brings a long history of caring for places to Kingo. Whether volunteering with the Caledonia Conservancy or the Dept. of Natural Resources, building and repairing America’s beautiful spaces with the Sierra Club, or completing his Master Gardener certification, Jim is a Mr. Fix It with a natural curiosity about how things work.
